Kristi Toprakci, MA, LMFT

Hi, I’m Kristi!

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 23 years of experience working with children, youth, adults, and families in a variety of roles and settings. I believe that people can change and grow to have the kind of lives they want to live, once they receive acceptance and learn to accept themselves as they are right in this present moment, and develop a toolkit of effective skills. I am passionate about providing a safe space to help each person and family explore what works best for them.

The Professional Stuff

I hold a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy, from Azusa Pacific University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego. I have been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 2011 in California, and since 2020 in Oregon. I work from a person-centered, humanistic approach (Rogerian Theory) and I believe that all people have the potential to self-actualize if given adequate guidance, support, and unconditional positive regard. I work from principles of the evidenced-based practice of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which blends cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) with mindfulness techniques, and teaches emotional regulation skills, distress tolerance skills, including radical acceptance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. I integrate somatic exercises for nervous system regulation using concepts from Polyvagal Theory. I utilize techniques from other modalities, such as IFS (Internal Family Systems). I focus on treating issues related to depression, anxiety, mood regulation, trauma, relationships, adjusting to life changes, grief and loss, and stress.

The Personal Stuff

Outside of work, I love to hike with my dog, travel, listen to live music, treasure hunt for vintage items, read, and spend time with friends and family.
