Jake Young, MS

Hi, I’m Jake!

I am a Registered Professional Counselor Associate with a passion for working with youth, young adults, and their family members. My goal is to create a comfortable space where you feel heard, seen, and understood. I believe in approaching things from a collaborative perspective, where we work as a team to explore any needs that you have in your life. Emotions are tough and are often overwhelming. My hope is to help you develop skills to experience them and manage them during times of stress

The Professional Stuff

I received my Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Eastern Washington University, and prior to that my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Wyoming. I am grateful to have worked with youth, young adults, adults, and families for over ten years. My experience includes intensive outpatient services, crisis response, as well as individual and group counseling services in community settings. This work has carried me across many states and I enjoy supporting different and diverse individuals.

I approach therapy from a strengths-based, person-centered perspective where we identify challenges that you see as important in your life. I utilize a variety of therapy modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), and Mindfulness techniques. I see these as great in partnership to challenge negative thought patterns, explore deeper emotions, and work on tools to ground and center oneself during challenging moments. I strive to work from a multicultural perspective that supports everyone and their own uniqueness. My passion lies in working with those struggling with PTSD, violent exposure, childhood trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use, mood disorders, and relational issues.

The Personal Stuff

I have lived and worked all over the U.S. and am excited to set roots down in Oregon. In my free time I enjoy going on walks and hikes with my dog, Ripley. I am quite the active person and love to work out, camp, snowboard, and recently have been exploring fly fishing. Outside of that I spend time doing nerdy things such as playing video games and DnD with my friends.
