Hi, I’m Karen!

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Karen is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner with over eight years of clinical experience providing compassionate, evidence-based care across diverse patient populations. She specializes in psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and integrated mental health treatment while maintaining a strong focus on patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and therapeutic collaboration.

About Me

Karen earned her Family Nurse Practitioner degree from United States University and later completed her Post-Master’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner training at Western University of Health Sciences. Adopted from Honduras at the age of seven, Karen began her healthcare career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and steadily advanced throughout the nursing profession through dedication, perseverance, and a passion for helping others. She plans to pursue her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree within the next few years as part of her continued commitment to professional growth and excellence in patient care.

Karen provides psychiatric care to children, adolescents, and adults. She has experience treating a wide range of mental health conditions including anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, trauma-related disorders, mood disorders, behavioral concerns, psychotic disorders, and severe mental illness. Her dual certification as both a PMHNP and FNP allows her to recognize and address the important connection between physical and mental health while developing individualized treatment plans that support long-term wellness and improved quality of life.

She is known for her strong communication skills, ability to quickly build rapport with patients and families, and commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care in outpatient and collaborative healthcare settings. Karen is passionate about expanding access to mental health services and supporting underserved communities.

Outside of work, Karen enjoys continuing her education by attending evidence-based conferences and learning more about complex health conditions to better serve her patients. In her free time, she enjoys skydiving, exploring new restaurants and cultural experiences, and trying different cuisines — with Indian food being her favorite.
